Natalie Payne, 2nd grader, whose special essay about her "cool teacher", Mrs. Heidi Fleming, was recognized in the WGVU Cool Teacher contest.  Natalie came across the Cool Teacher contest while watching WGVU television, and asked her mom if she could enter Mrs. Fleming.  Natalie worked on the essay for two days, with little help from mom.  Mrs. Fleming was chosen as 1 of 2 winners per month out of hundreds of nominees.

Mrs. Fleming and Natalie and her parents were invited to Eberhard Center at GVSU for a dinner banquet.  Each winning student and teacher was recognized on stage and presented with a goodie bag.  WGVU also visited the classroom back in December and presented Natalie with awards, roundtrip travel on Amtrak and a class pizza party.

It is one of the highest honors a teacher can receive when a student goes above and beyond, outside of class time and class assignments, to recognize a special teacher!  Natalie is a model student for seeking out a positive application of her academic skills!

Pentwater High School has again, for the seoncd year in a row, been given a Bronze level award in National Rank by US News & World Report based on our student achievement and our beating our expected achievement (based on poverty levels in the state).  Ten high schools earned a Gold rating, 50 earned Silver, and 131 earned Bronze.  There are 873 high schools in our state.

Students and teachers, your hard work is showing and so is your commitment to achievement!  WELL DONE!
